Beatification of Pope John Paul II

Divine Mercy Sunday seems like the perfect date for the Beatification of Pope John Paul II.  It was he who instituted this feast day.  Truly his effect on the world cannot be over-stated:  perhaps the most significant being his visit to Poland which started the eventual fall of the Iron Curtain and Communism in his home country.

According to our sources, there will be no tickets for the beatification. It will be first come, first served basis so that it is fair to everyone.  With an estimated 1 million plus people it will be near impossible to get inside Saint Peter's Basilica and difficult (although not impossible) even to get in to Saint Peter's Square.  There will undoubtedly be large screen televisions set up in the square and possible other areas as well.

We know that many Catholic tour companies are offering trips to the beatification, and that is wonderful.  Just be sure you know where you will be during the ceremony.  There will be some who want to show up at 2:00 a.m. to try to get a good spot and if you are willing to do so then that may mean you get to be in Saint Peter's square.
